LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Friday that an air ambulance service would soon be launched in the province.
The Chief Minister took the decision while chairing a meeting on the Air Ambulance project in Lahore. Maryam also authorized the use of a helicopter attached to her office for emergency patient transfers to bolster the medical response in remote areas of the province.
Provincial Chief Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Adviser Pervaiz Rashid, Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Primary and Secondary Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir along with other officials including Chief Secretary, P&D Chairman, Finance Secretary, Dr. Adnan and the secretary of the emergency department were present at the meeting.
At the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the vital need for timely transport of patients to hospitals – especially in remote areas where accessibility is a problem. She cited the unfortunate incident of a cardiac patient at Sargodha Hospital, highlighting the urgency of effective emergency medical services.
Maryam also announced plans to start 1122 ambulance service on highways.
During her inaugural address after being elected as the chief executive of the province, Maryam promised a “new era” for Punjab as she unveiled her ambitious vision for the development of the province in the next five years.
In her hour-and-a-half victory speech, Maryam also pledged to work on health and education and providing jobs and housing to the people of the province.
