The Punjab Police on Sunday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja amid the party’s demonstrations in Lahore.
Balakh Sher Khosa, Latif Khosa’s son, confirmed his father’s arrest and expressed concern over the incident.
“We have noticed that Sardar Latif Khosa has been taken into custody, an act which is totally deplorable and totally intolerable,” party leader Sher Afzal Marwat said at the official X.
Marwat urged the Punjab authorities to stop what he described as “unjust behaviour”, arguing that peaceful protest was their fundamental right.
Salman Akram Raja, another prominent PTI leader, was also detained by the police. Advocate Muhammad Mehr Salim was among those arrested along with Raja.
Meanwhile, rallies and demonstrations organized by PTI supporters and activists were witnessed across the country, with rallies reported in Rawalpindi, Karachi, Kandhkot, Tank and other urban centres.
In Lahore, according to media reports, authorities deployed heavy police presence on Mall Road and surrounding areas to maintain order, leading to the arrest of several PTI workers from GPO Chowk.
Similar preparations were made in Karachi where police and Sindh Rangers were stationed outside Deputy Commissioner Korangi’s office ahead of the expected protests.
Tensions flared in Rawalpindi when PTI protesters clashed with police after they were denied entry into the city via the Khanna Pul route. Several party workers were detained, only to be released later.
In Tank, PTI supporters marched from Sabir Bazaar to the Town Hall grounds and expressed their outrage.
Protests also broke out in Faisalabad, Vehari, Khushab, Islamabad, Multan, Gujranwala and other cities, indicating widespread discontent among PTI supporters over the alleged rigged election.
