Despite being one of the most sensitive districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Muharram, Dera Ismail Khan is witnessing severe unscheduled power outages and low voltage, causing immense inconvenience to citizens and mourners alike.

Several major feeders — including Kotla Syedan, Mandra, and Grid Road feeders — have reportedly experienced power shutdowns from 7 PM to 6 AM, coupled with dangerously low voltage. As a result, not only have mourning processions and religious gatherings been disrupted, but citizens also suffered financial losses with home appliances worth thousands of rupees damaged due to power fluctuations.

Caretakers of Imambargahs and Zakireen have expressed serious concern, warning that if any untoward incident occurs during these sensitive days, the responsibility will lie squarely with WAPDA and the district administration.

Notably, Dera Ismail Khan is the constituency of three key political figures — Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Faisal Karim Kundi — yet, even their home district remains deprived of basic electricity facilities, exposing glaring inefficiencies in governance and representation.

Frustrated citizens have demanded immediate intervention from the Chief Minister and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging them to take strict action against responsible WAPDA officials and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Muharram. They warned of widespread protests if their grievances remain unheard, and held both the administration and elected leaders equally accountable for the worsening situation.
