The Federal Government has entrusted senior officer Naveed Asghar Chaudhry with the additional responsibility of serving as Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). Mr. Chaudhry is currently serving as Member (Finance), WAPDA, and is a Grade BS-20 officer from the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service (PA&AS).
According to the official notification, his appointment has been made under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. As per the directive issued by the government, Mr. Naveed Asghar Chaudhry will hold the additional charge of Chairman WAPDA for a period of three months or until a regular Chairman is appointed, whichever occurs earlier.
The notification clearly states that this assignment is effective immediately and shall remain in force until further orders. The official notification was issued by the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of Pakistan, on June 21, 2025, and signed by Section Officer Muhammad Afzal Sadaf Haral.
This decision comes at a crucial time when WAPDA is overseeing several major national infrastructure projects, including the Dasu, Mohmand, and Diamer-Bhasha Dams. The interim appointment is being regarded as an essential move to ensure leadership continuity and to avoid any administrative vacuum at the top level of the organization.
