ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) has invited young Pakistani science students to participate in the 21st International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO-2024).
According to a PSF official, the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) will tentatively be held from December 2 to 11 this year in Bucharest, Romania.
IJSO is a science competition for students under the age of 16 on December 31 of the competition year. IJSO was founded with the aim of promoting interest in science among school students, exposing them to problem solving, critical thinking and experimentation.
Over the years, IJSO has been trying to positively influence the teaching of science and mathematics at the school level. The IJSO is held every year in the first week of December in any member country.
About the eligibility, the official informed that the interested students (boys and girls) below 16 years of age as on 31st December 2024 can send their applications on the prescribed proforma available through the web link https://psf.gov.pk/Ijso2024.aspx.
Applicant must be a regular science student and must have minimum SSC-I (Class-IX) / equivalent from a public or private sector institution (recognized by the government) having proficiency in written and spoken English.
Only applicants shortlisted on the basis of educational attainment documents will be invited to the test and interview for their final selection.
Six students will be selected for the said event and the decision of the panel of scientists/experts will be final in this regard, the official said.
PSF will bear the expenses including registration, visa fee and air transportation of selected students. Accommodation and local hospitality will be provided by the organizers while TA/DA will not be provided to the students appearing for the test/interview.
The last date for receipt of applications is March 11, 2024. Incomplete or applications received after the closing date will not be considered. Inquiries can be directed to rehanabatool2005@yahoo.com.
