Abbottabad Grand Jirga of Mutahida Kohistan Committee was held Under Commissioner Hazara’s Chairmanship to Resolve Issues Related to 132 KV Transmission Line DHPP.A jirga was held at the Commissioner House under the chairmanship of Commissioner Hazara Division, Mr. Fayaz Ali Shah, to resolve issues related to the 132 kV transmission lines in Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas and the Kohistan Upper. The Jirga was attended by the MNA, MPAs, and Deputy Commissioners from all the three districts of Kohistan, along with the General Manager, Dasu Hydropower Project and his team and provided a detailed briefing.
Addressing the grand jirga, Commissioner Hazara informed the local elders that implementation of all their demands related to local area development schemes, as mentioned in the agreement dated December 12, 2022, had already begun. Approximately, 50% of the allocated funds have been transferred by WAPDA to the respective accounts of the Deputy Commissioners.
The Commissioner further explained that halting work on the 132 kV transmission line would adversely affect progress on the Dasu Dam, thereby impacting the country’s reputation and development. He emphasized the project’s timely completion is crucial for national economic growth and the work that was halted for the past couple of months has been restarted. The MNA, MPAs, and Jirga members assured that they will not halt the work under any circumstances, nor will they permit anyone else to do so. He directed WAPDA will immediately commence work on LADP projects that are ready, as a confidence-building measure
He assured the jirga elders that all legitimate demands would be addressed. He also announced that concerned Deputy Commissioners would hold project review meetings every 15 days in their offices, while he himself would chair monthly review meetings at his office, to be attended by the Kohistan MNA/MPAs and Deputy Commissioners of all three districts.
He further directed the Deputy Commissioners to keep the public informed by displaying project progress updates on boards outside their offices.
In conclusion, all participants offered prayers for success. The elders reaffirmed their commitment to fully cooperate in the timely completion of the projects, pledging not to create any hindrances and to prioritize peaceful resolution of issues. Commissioner Hazara thanked all attendees for their participation.
