ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has become the first South Asian country to export heat-treated beef to China, reports WealthPK.
Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL) — a Pakistan-based firm — proudly announced its historic achievement, marking a significant step towards delivering quality food to the international markets.
Notifying the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the TOMCL revealed that it has become the first South Asian company to export cooked and heat-treated frozen beef and meat products to the People’s Republic of China.
“The successful export of heat-treated beef from Pakistan to China is a major achievement in the constantly evolving global trade dynamics, particularly in the agricultural and meat industries. This accomplishment not only demonstrates Pakistan’s capability to deliver superior quality products but also highlights the strategic importance of the country as a rising player in the international meat market,” announced Kousar Ali Zaidi, Director General at the Ministry of Commerce.
“China alone consumes a staggering 23% of the world’s total beef production, presenting a vast market for potential growth. Though Pakistan currently exports only 0.5% of the world’s beef consumption, this groundbreaking achievement is likely to open new avenues for trade and cooperation between the two nations.

“The global meat industry is highly competitive, and entering the Chinese market with heat-treated beef reflects a commitment to food safety and quality standards. This accomplishment positions Pakistan as a reliable supplier, capable of meeting the demanding standards of one of the world’s largest consumer markets,” he said.
“Pakistan has significantly improved its agricultural and livestock products over time by using modern techniques,” the official said.
The improvement in trade between Pakistan and China is a positive development. However, the potential of trade is much more than the current numbers, he said.
Pakistan needs to remove the supply-side constraints to produce the goods in large quantity and of the best quality to grab the market share, Kousar added.
With the completion of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Pakistan is a viable export partner of China when seen in the context of proximity and logistics. The export of beef and other products through this corridor will provide Pakistan with the best opportunity to expand its market.
