Big Bend: US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made abortion rights the centerpiece of their reelection campaign Monday, hitting Republicans on an issue that Democrats regard as a powerful vote winner against Donald Trump.
“How dare he?” Harris spoke of former President Trump, who has boasted about his involvement in eliminating the constitutional, federal right to abortion, as she flew to Wisconsin for the commencement of a nationwide tour on the subject.
Biden, meanwhile, railed against “extremist” and “cruel” Republicans in a speech at the White House commemorating the 51st anniversary of Roe v Wade, the landmark decision legalizing abortion that the conservative-leaning US Supreme Court shockingly reversed in 2022.
Harris and Biden have warned that if Republicans win the November presidential election, they will implement a countrywide abortion prohibition.
Since the Supreme Court’s verdict, in which three Trump-appointed judges tipped the balance substantially to the right, 21 states have already enacted full or partial bans.
