Factories are being run in the world with the help of renewable solar energy while the resources we have are being wasted due to the negligence of the relevant institutions and authorities. In view of the ongoing electricity and energy crisis in the country the importance of using solar energy has increased.
Although there is no clear policy in this regard on the part of the government at the national level. However efforts have been made by various governments which are having positive effects. Since electricity is less in the rural population of the country, solar energy panels have now taken the place of generation there, which suggests that electricity and gas consumers are moving towards solar energy.
At the official level a solar energy park has been built in the country but this program could not be expanded to other parts of the country where the sun shines more due to lack of interest from the governments. Pakistan has 2.9 million megawatts of solar power generation capacity.
Pakistan’s power sector is in shambles and officials have described it as a “black hole” that is destroying the economy. The government is borrowing more and more from private power generation companies while failing to meet the growing energy needs. The import of fuel and other raw materials worth over $12 billion for power generation is burdening the national exchequer and the situation is worsened by the increase in electricity prices for consumers as a result of the devaluation of the rupee.
Therefore, the only way forward in the energy sector is to end this chaotic and inefficient system and gradually move towards renewable and environmentally friendly sources of energy generation. There is one source in particular that stands out and that is solar energy. The current government seems to have realized this as it expects to launch 9,000 MW of solar projects on a priority basis to ease the burden on the power sector.
Under that solar systems will not only be provided at discounted prices but also tax incentives will be given. To make it more sustainable in the long run the government can go a step further by introducing residential solar units and providing loans to consumers.
That will help the citizens to repay the loan easily through installment plan. The government will also get some revenue for reinvestment. The country should also benefit from the thousands of electrical engineers who He develops and encourages experiments at the university level. This will help build local infrastructure and boost grassroots power sector. Relying on petroleum fueled electricity is no longer a viable option for a densely populated country suffering from the effects of inflation.
The most important step may be to exempt the import taxes on solar energy lenses and other equipment and declare this sector as a tax free zone for at least ten years so that on the one hand the people involved in this business can Maximum employment opportunities can be provided while on the other hand this technology can be spread across the country.
So as to eliminate the concerns among consumers that it is an expensive or fragile technology. If the government wants to permanently overcome the energy crisis in the country, then it has to give free concessions to the people and businessmen for a few years there has no other option.
It is hoped that the planners will make a comprehensive plan in this regard. If renewable resources, i.e. solar energy, Gas are not used for obtaining energy in the country in the coming years, then the energy crisis will become more severe and there will be many effects on the life of the citizens.
