ISLAMABAD: The snow-covered GB region will host a seven-day “Winter sports festival” from January 15 to 25 to attract millions of local and foreign tourists. More than 52 teams, including 12 female athletes, will compete in the event, according to Gilgit Baltistan’s Minister of Planning and Development Raja Nasir Ali Khan on Monday.
Speaking with the PTV news station, the GB minister stated that the event’s goal is to highlight the region’s natural beauty and the positive perception of Pakistan worldwide. He also mentioned that this year’s winter sports festival in Gilgit-Baltistan includes the inaugural “Ice Hockey Championship.”
He claimed that Pakistan will benefit from hosting important international events in Gilgit-Baltistan, such as the 2026 Olympics and the Asian Games, which would promote the country internationally.
He claimed that winter activities like skiing and ice skating have always been well-liked in Great Britain.
In response to a query, he stated that the seven-day competition would have hundreds of competitors from ten different districts competing in skating, ice hockey, and ice curling.
He said the government should focus on winter sports in GB because they will improve Pakistan’s standing abroad and help the people in many ways.
In response to a follow-up query, he stated that “the festival also includes several stalls of traditional dresses, food, and handicrafts which is an added attraction for the tourists and an advantage for the locals” in order to support local culture and businesses.
He said that the GB hotel and guest house associations will offer top-notch services to visitors so they can enjoy the festival.
He also promised that we will supply all kinds of tourism amenities, such better roads, convenient access to locations, spotless hotels and guest rooms, and skilled labor.
He emphasized that the uncontrolled flood of visitors resulted in traffic congestion and disturbances to the public order. To change the number of visitors, we have suggested that new tourist destinations be developed and managed properly.
