Moving shops…….An affordable opportunity for small traders to earn livelihood

As the rents of shops in the main markets and amount of advanced paid money to the shop owners besides expenditures has increased, the small traders have started preferring open air business on roadside, through carts and even now small vehicles and carts attached with motorcycles are used to sell vegetables and other daily use items by visiting the streets in the main cities and congested areas of the towns. Even donkey carts and horse carts are also used for the purpose.

This has lessened the expenses of the small traders who through their moving shops do business and at evening after rounding up the business take their shops back to homes or park them at places allocated for them near their residences.

Nazeer Khan alias Wali Mian told ‘The Public Purview’ that he struggled for years to get a government job but was not able to succeed in his struggle despite his all-out efforts.

Nazeer Khan said that after failure to get a government job, he turned his attention to private sector but the salaries offered by private sectors were not sufficient to lead a respectable life. He said that he considered to start a business but when looked for a job in main market, the shop owner demanded Rs2 million as Advance Rent Payment.

The young man said that disappointed of all sides, he purchased an old cart from a vendour and started collecting and purchasing old items.

Wali Mian said that the now through his old cart he is able to earn Rs1500 to Rs2000 daily and sometimes this daily earning crosses Rs5000 figure.
