KARACHI: A woman and a young girl were shot and injured after resisting a robbery in Karachi’s Mauripur area on Sunday.
Police said the suspects took the family’s phone and wallet and fled. The victim’s family had come to Hawkes Bay for a picnic and their vehicle broke down en route, police said.
While they were waiting for their car to be repaired, robbers came, took their belongings and injured them in response. Law enforcement officials said the injured 35-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were taken to a civil hospital in Karachi for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza has set up a committee to probe the incident while demanding an explanation from the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mauripura regarding the incident.
The DIG also warned the Station House Officer (SHO) Mauripur of consequences if the suspects involved in the Hawksbay robbery incident were not nabbed within a week.
“If the suspects are not arrested, action will be taken against the SHO,” he said.
It is to be noted that at least 82 people have lost their lives in incidents of robbery resistance in Karachi this year.
While, according to the Civil Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), 10,323 mobile phones were stolen in Karachi in just six months – from January to June – this year, including 1,433 last month.
