MARDAN: The number of unregistered high-speed and cheng-chi rickshaws in various bazars of Mardan city has exceeded 60 thousand. The concerned staff of TMA Mardan and the traffic police have given a free receipt on relation bases, due to these unregistered rickshaws, the number is increasing day by day on the other hand, traffic accidents have also become normal routine. Abdullah Abid a local citizen of Mardan city has said that the unregistered Rikshaws running on Shamsi Road, Bank Road, Khawaja Ganj Bazaar, College Chowk, Parhoti Chowk, Malakand Chowk, Charsada Chowk and Mills Road in addition to Main Nowshera Road and The number of Cheng Chi rickshaws is increasing day by day which is a matter of concern. He said that on one hand if these rickshaws have become a source of employment on the other hand due to these rickshaws daily traffic accidents have become normal in the city apart from this, there is no law for the registration of these rickshaws in the excise department so that it can be registered and if the driver of these rickshaws kills a person, a child or a woman the rickshaw driver takes advantage of the high speed, if he runs away, against whom will the report of the deceased person, child or woman be filed, many such traffic accidents have occurred in Mardan due to over speeding of rickshaws, in which most of the rickshaw drivers have managed to run away with the rickshaw, leaving the injured persons on the side of the road, The local citizens have strongly demanded the Provincial Government, Excise Department, District Administration, Mardan Police and Tehsil Mayor Mardan to legislate to bring these unregistered Tez Raftar and Cheng Chi rickshaws under the law, and the temporary markings on the rickshaws can be recognized and a plan of action and steps should be taken to control the increasing number of rickshaws day by day so that the number of rickshaws in the markets of the urban area can be reduced and the citizens can walk easily and the temporary markings on the rickshaws can help relatives and police in identification in traffic accidents.
