ROME: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Italian region of Calabria late on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the earthquake was centered three kilometers west of Pietrapaola in the province of Cosenza on the Ionian Sea.
Firefighters wrote to X that there were no reports of damage or calls for help, but inspections were ongoing.
The mayor of Pietrapaola, Manuela Labonia, told RaiNews 24 that “the situation is calm”.
INGV chief Carlo Doglioni told RaiNews 24 that there have been various tremors in the area in recent days and the agency is monitoring the situation.
On social media, some people reported feeling the quake as far away as Bari in Puglia, about 250 kilometers to the north.
