A recent study reveals that individuals with Type 2 diabetes often experience deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals. Researchers reported in the BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health journal that 45% of Type 2 diabetes patients suffer from multiple deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Dr. Diya Krishan Mangal, a professor at the International Institute of Health Management Research in Jaipur, India, explained that the study highlights the dual burden of nutritional deficiency among diabetes patients. Those attempting to manage their diabetes through diet may also face malnutrition. The research gathered data from 132 previous studies conducted between 1998 and 2023, involving over 52,500 participants. It was found that over 60% of Type 2 diabetes patients had critically low levels of vitamin D.
