The 107th meeting of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Islamic Ideology Council was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice AJK and Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council, Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, at the Supreme Court Rest House in Mirpur. Members of the council, including prominent Islamic scholars and government officials, participated in the meeting.
The agenda included discussions on the implementation of recommendations regarding the Property Transfer Act (Amendment) 2021, formulated during the previous council session. The Secretary of Law was instructed to inform the government about the council’s recommendations and align the amendment with Article 32(7) of the AJK Constitution.
The council praised the efforts of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department for drafting the AJK Education Policy 2023-2040 and acknowledged the contributions of the Character Education Foundation Islamabad. It was decided to present recommendations for a memorandum of understanding in the next council session.
Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan emphasized addressing unresolved issues discussed in previous meetings, holding joint sessions with Pakistan’s Islamic Ideology Council, and aligning existing laws with Islamic principles. He also highlighted the significance of special council sessions in the presence of the AJK President and Prime Minister.
The council commended the President of AJK for his support in acknowledging the council’s constitutional role and achievements. It also resolved to establish a committee under the chairmanship of Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan to review the quality of literature on the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Resolutions Passed
Several resolutions were unanimously adopted during the meeting:
- Condemnation of Israeli Aggression in Palestine
The council strongly condemned Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza, leading to the massacre of over 50,000 Palestinians, injuries to over 100,000, and the destruction of infrastructure, including hospitals and UN facilities. It criticized the international community’s silence on these atrocities and emphasized the need for establishing a free Palestinian state to ensure lasting peace in the Middle East. - Kashmir Issue
The council denounced India’s unconstitutional actions of revoking Articles 370 and 35-A, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. It condemned India’s attempts to change the demographic makeup of the region and called upon international organizations, including the OIC, Amnesty International, and the UN, to pressure India to restore the rights of Kashmiri Muslims. - Support for Pakistan’s Armed Forces Against Terrorism
The council paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces for their sacrifices in combating terrorism and condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks targeting civilians and security forces. It reiterated Islam’s message of peace and called for national unity to eradicate terrorism.
Appeal to the International Community
The council urged the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and Islamic countries to take effective measures to stop Israeli atrocities in Gaza and address the human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir. It also called for a unified approach to counter terrorism and support Pakistan’s efforts to ensure national security and peace.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Islamic teachings, peace, and harmony, and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address pressing issues facing the Muslim world.
