Gilgit: Provincial government of Gilgit-Baltistan has confirmed that 10 people have died due to dog bites in Gilgit City. Speaking to the media, Special Assistant for Information Iman Shah said that in Gilgit-Baltistan, there has been a sudden series of stray dog bites and attacks on humans for the past three to four months. Government has ensured the availability of anti-rabies vaccine in all three major hospitals, provincial headquarters hospital, shaheed saif ur Rehman hospital and regional headquarters hospital Gilgit where patients are getting free vaccine. Short-term and long-term projects have been initiated to deal with this problem, in which dogs have been culled initially and dog shooting has been started, but this may not be a long-term issue, for which non-governmental organizations to control the breed of dogs and vaccinate them. Help has been sought from organizations and discussions are ongoing. He said that the public should cooperate with the health department from the administration so that the campaign can be completed and life and property can be protected.
