ISLAMABAD: Allama Masoodur Rehman Usmani, the leader of the Sunni Ulema Council Pakistan and a famous religious figure, was slain in an incident on Friday in Islamabad.
A spokesperson revealed that armed persons opened fire on Usmani’s vehicle in Ghauri Town, resulting in the religious figure’s untimely death.
Following reports of the event, a large police presence quickly appeared on the area. The deceased’s remains was brought to PIMS Hospital for further assessment.
Confirming the identity of the victim, Islamabad Police spokesperson, in a statement said that the suspects involved in the attack will be apprehended soon and brought to justice.
He stated that the criminals are being tracked down using CCTV cameras, and that one person was also hurt during the shooting.
Soon after the incident, members of the Sunni Ulema Council gathered outside the PIMS Hospital and began protesting, prompting the arrival of extra police personnel.
This is the latest occasion in which religious figures have been targeted. A Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate for the general elections had survived a bomb attack in Bajaur the day before when his vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled device.

Khairullah’s vehicle was damaged as a result of the explosion, but the JUI-F commander was unhurt.

The convoy of JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman was attacked at the Yarik Interchange in Dera Ismail Khan on December 31.
According to early information, the terrorists opened fire on the convoy from two directions. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
