LAHORE: On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court dismissed petitions filed by former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi, former Federal Minister Hammad Azhar, and Sanam Javed challenging the rejection of their nomination papers.
A three-member full bench led by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi dismissed Elahi’s appeal against the rejection of papers from four constituencies: NA-64, NA-69, PP-32, and PP-34.
Meanwhile, Hammad Azhar’s nomination papers for NA-129 were rejected by the same LHC panel.
During the hearing, it was argued that the returning officer’s and the appellate tribunal’s decision to deny the candidate the ability to run in elections should be deemed null and void. However, the court upheld the RO and tribunal’s decisions.
