Street crime in Islamabad has increased rapidly over the past 3 years. The crimes include mobile phone snatchings and robberies. The snatches occur not only during the night but also in the day. The snatchers have leveled up their game regarding the mugging of citizens as if they have no fear of getting arrested by the police. Last week an incident took place in my neighborhood in which a policeman along with his son was shot dead by two street criminals. The criminals were in the middle of a robbery attempt when the policeman showed up and tried to prevent them. In the heat of the moment, the robbers opened fire on him and his son, leading to their demise. A lot of incidents like these occur in different sectors of Islamabad and it is saddening to see how these criminals are still roaming free. These crimes have instilled fear among the citizens, who have to think about it several times before leaving their homes at night. The Islamabad Police should take strict action against such crimes and should increase their patrolling in all sectors of Islamabad so that such incidents can be prevented in the future and the sense of fear that has been built in the people can also be diminished.
