The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has revealed the name of Islamabad’s upcoming food and recreation hub: Capital Street. The project will be developed near Shakarparian, next to the Art and Craft Village, and is envisioned as a modern destination for dining, leisure, and cultural activities.
Expanding the Capital’s Food and Leisure Scene
Capital Street is part of CDA’s broader plan to enhance the city’s entertainment and culinary options. Alongside this initiative, the authority is revamping the well‑known Melody Food Street and creating a car‑free food zone in Blue Area to diversify Islamabad’s dining landscape.
A Cultural and Entertainment Corridor
Officials explained that Capital Street will feature restaurants, open‑air cafés, art workshops, and an exhibition hall. Family‑friendly recreational spaces are also included in the design, with the aim of promoting local cuisine and showcasing cultural talent.
The proposal was discussed earlier this year in a high‑level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who stressed the importance of elevating Islamabad’s food culture while ensuring proper hygiene and management standards.
“Islamabad deserves vibrant, safe, and well‑organized food spaces where families can enjoy local cuisine and entertainment,” Randhawa noted.
Infrastructure and Modernization Plans
The CDA board has already approved upgrades to lighting, parking facilities, and waste management systems at existing food sites. These measures are intended to improve visitor experience and align with the city’s ongoing beautification drive.
Land Earmarked, Work Yet to Begin
Although construction has not yet started, land near Shakarparian has been allocated for Capital Street. Once operational, the hub is expected to become Islamabad’s newest culinary and cultural hotspot, complementing other urban development projects.
Melody Food Street Revamp
In addition, CDA reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing Melody Food Street. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Islamabad Food Authority to ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations.
