Beijing: An average of 270 million trips by private and public transport are expected during the five-day Labor Day holiday starting on Wednesday.
The ministry said in a press conference on Monday that the intensity of the movement will be higher than the period in 2023 and 2019 before the COVID.
Ministry official Gu Sheng explained that people driving private vehicles will cause more than 80 percent of the traffic during the holiday.
Meanwhile, the nation’s highways are expected to record 63.5 million vehicles a day, about 1.8 times more than during non-holiday periods.
The official said that the railway and civil aviation sectors are also expected to register more passenger trips during the holidays compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
During the five-day holiday, the state toll road will also waive tolls for vehicles carrying less than 7 passengers.
