KARACHI: The International Maritime Conference (IMC-25) officially commenced at the Karachi Expo Centre, running alongside the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC-25). Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, inaugurated the conference as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the strategic importance of Pakistan’s sea-based sector in driving sustainable economic growth. “The Blue Economy is a cornerstone of national development,” he stated, calling for stronger public-private partnerships, modernized port infrastructure, and enhanced regional sea trade to boost Pakistan’s economic resilience.

Rear Admiral (R) Javaid Iqbal, President (Designate) of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), welcomed delegates from friendly nations, academia, research institutions, and the marine industry. He stressed the importance of such forums in shaping national ocean governance strategy and contributing to long-term strategic planning.

Themed “Harnessing Blue Economy Potential for Sustainable Development”, IMC-25 featured a series of high-level presentations and discussions led by senior naval officials, scholars, and ocean strategists.
