KARACHI: The International Maritime Conference (IMC-25) officially commenced at the Karachi Expo Centre, running alongside the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC-25). Organized by the Pakistan Navy in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the two-day event has brought together global naval experts, policymakers, naval professionals, and industry leaders to address pressing issues in ocean governance and regional connectivity.

Finance Minister Highlights Marine Sector’s Role in Economic Revival

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, inaugurated the conference as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the strategic importance of Pakistan’s sea-based sector in driving sustainable economic growth. “The Blue Economy is a cornerstone of national development,” he stated, calling for stronger public-private partnerships, modernized port infrastructure, and enhanced regional sea trade to boost Pakistan’s economic resilience.

NIMA President Welcomes Delegates and Sets Strategic Tone

Rear Admiral (R) Javaid Iqbal, President (Designate) of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), welcomed delegates from friendly nations, academia, research institutions, and the marine industry. He stressed the importance of such forums in shaping national ocean governance strategy and contributing to long-term strategic planning.

Conference Theme Focuses on Sustainable Development and Innovation

Themed “Harnessing Blue Economy Potential for Sustainable Development”, IMC-25 featured a series of high-level presentations and discussions led by senior naval officials, scholars, and ocean strategists. Topics included naval security, ocean resource management, technological innovation, and collaborative frameworks for sustainable ocean governance.

Sessions to Explore Regional Connectivity and Marine Resource Management

Over the course of two days, the conference will host thematic sessions, expert panels, and policy dialogues aimed at advancing regional ocean collaboration and promoting responsible use of marine resources.
