DUBAI: With an anticipated height of more than 1,000 meters, the Jeddah Tower, also called Kingdom Tower, is now being built in Saudi Arabia and is expected to overtake the Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest structure.
2010 saw the Burj Khalifa in Dubai soar to previously unheard-of heights—at 828 meters, it broke records as the highest skyscraper in the world.
Per Guinness World Records, the Jeddah Tower—which is predicted to rise to a height of over 1,000 meters (1 km; 3,281 feet)—may, when it is finished, completely alter the skyline.
Constructed by the Jeddah Economic Company, this imposing building is intended to be a multipurpose complex with offices, high-end condominiums, serviced apartments, and luxurious homes.
Among its many ground-breaking features is the “world’s highest observatory,” which is scheduled to be housed there.
Although the record for the highest altitude is now held by the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory, the Jeddah Tower’s ambitious design and anticipated $1.23 billion cost make it a strong contender to topple the Burj Khalifa.
After a five-year pause, work on this architectural marvel—which is part of a massive $20 billion mega-project—began again in 2023. It is situated in north Jeddah.
The Burj Khalifa’s record-breaking reign could be seriously challenged by its anticipated scale and facilities, which is why the secrecy surrounding its completion date further heightens the suspense.
The world of architecture is eager to see this new representation of human achievement, which is ready to soar even farther into the domains.
